Our 3rd Anniversary Photos - Beach Sunrise
Updated: Jul 17, 2020
Over three years ago, we tied the knot and we haven't untied it since! The past three years have been some of the greatest of our entire lives and we wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. We feel like we're getting old. Really old. But we don't mind getting old as long as we're together!
Every year around our anniversary, we try to go on what we call "Our Mooniversary". Jenna came up with the name and it just stuck! Basically, it's the anniversary of our honeymoon so we take a trip to celebrate. This year's Mooniversary was quite the adventure! We'll have a more detailed blog post later that will cover our entire trip. For now we wanted to share our FIRST EVER anniversary photo shoot.
We were so thrilled that we were going to the beach. Not just because we love the sun, sand, and sea, but because we were able to take some beautiful photos while we were there.
Now we know what you're thinking, "Did they take these photos themselves or did someone take them for them?". The answer isn't very glamorous. We actually took these ourselves with a good old fashioned tripod and timer. Every. Single. One. Believe us, it wasn't easy! Focus, composition, and lighting are all p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y extremely hard to get right when you aren't behind the camera. One of the other hard parts to achieving these images was posing because we had no idea how we looked from behind the camera! On top of it all, we actually felt a little bit awkward because we aren't used to being in front of the camera. In a lot of ways it helped us to understand how our clients feel and what they think when we take photos for them. If we had to do it again, we would probably hire a photographer to take photos for us so we wouldn't have to spend so much time running back and forth to make sure we captured the photo right.
The beach is by far our favorite place to take photos! You just can't beat the perfect lighting and background that it provides. As you may or may not know, our favorite lighting is just before sunset. The problem we had is that we wanted the beautiful light from the sunset AND we wanted the nice background of the beach. But we were on the East Coast. Meaning the sun sets in the total opposite direction that we needed. So we only had one option. Sunrise. That meant we had to be on the beach, camera ready, and not looking like zombies in desperate need of coffee by 6:30 A.M. Plus, where we were staying gave us a 30 minute drive to the beach. Basically we had to wake up at 5:00 A.M. And if you know us, early mornings aren't really our thing. But if it meant achieving beautiful lighting with a beautiful background, we were going to do it!
Looking back, we can totally say it was worth the sacrifice. The early morning rush to get ready, chugging down the coffee so we didn't look tired, running back and forth about 10 times for each photo just to get the perfect shot. We would do it ALL again because we are so in love with how our photos turned out!
